Javier is one of the most respected private equity executives in Spain, with over 25 years of experience, most of them as the Chairman of the leading private equity firm in the country, Mercapital.
Today Javier is the Chairman of MOIRA Capital Partners, a Spanish private equity management company focused on seeking higher return investments in mid-sized Iberian businesses with superior medium-term growth and business transformation opportunities, and funding each deal from a selected number of Family Offices, Asset Managers and Institutions. Javier is also Chairman of MOIRA Capital Advisors, an independent advisory boutique focused on providing senior investment, financial and strategic advice, to a selected group of companies and investors, in business-critical situations.
Mercapital was a leading private equity firm in Spain, and the only one present throughout Latin America. In its 27 years of history it invested in 115 companies (62 platforms and 53 add-ons), and played a key active role in their growth and development. Javier led or co-led 26 (representing $1.050m of capital invested) of the 62 platform investments done by Mercapital. From 2014 to 2015, he took part in the restructuring of the large construction and mining conglomerate Leighton, recently under the control of the global construction group ACS, one of the world’s leading international contractors, and the world’s largest contract miner.
He has held relevant positions in EVCA (European Private Equity & Venture Capital Association) between 2002 and 2008, becoming Chairman in 2006-2007; and in the Spanish Association of Venture Capital (ASCRI) being appointed Chairman in 1995.
During his career Javier has led teams and developed businesses in Europe, Latam and Asia and been based in Paris, Madrid, Sao Paulo and Sydney. Native in Spanish, Proficient in English, French, and Portuguese. MBA from INSEAD. MSc in Civil Engineering (Ingeniero de Caminos, Canales y Puertos) from Universidad Politecnica de Madrid.
